Job search pages are important for driving traffic to the site via static and consistent pages (in contrast to job postings that are constantly added/removed from a site).
From the faceted search (filters) Jobiqo generates “pretty URLs” which can be indexed by Google.
Irrespective of the sequence in which job search filters (facets) are selected, they will always lead to the same URL structure, which looks as follows:
https://[example.org]/jobs/[occupation]/[company]/[location]/[employment_type]
Example:
https://jobboard.org/jobs/software-and-it/microsoft/san-francisco/full-timew
Note: It is not possible to create job search URLs manually. Instead, these URLs are generated whenever a job is published. Examples: New company publishes first job --> company name filter / URL is created. Job is published at a new location --> region filter / URL is created
It does not make much sense to let Google (and other search engines) index all possible filter combinations. The reason for that is that the search results will be very similar to each other and could be regarded as duplicate content by Google. Also, the sheer amount of pages would likely exceed the search engine's crawl budget.
For example, the following searches would probably have many identical job results:
- Full time jobs in San Francisco
- Full time jobs at Microsoft in San Francisco
- Full time IT jobs in San Francisco
Consequently, to limit the count of pages indexed at Google, Jobiqo is restricting the maximum number of filters for search bots to 2. This is done by a canonical tag, which appears on every job search page with 3 or more filters, and points to the URL with only 2 filters.
Example:
Page URL: /jobs/software-and-it/microsoft/san-francisco/full-time
Canonical on that page: /jobs/software-and-it/microsoft/
